If you want to use spare nodes (created during configuration backup) after restoring configuration, you need to prepare spare nodes, reregister the spare nodes to a storage cluster, and reregister BMC information of storage nodes.

Procedures in this section only apply to the case in which you prepare spare nodes to a storage cluster for which restoring configuration completes. Ask a system administrator to determine and enter authentication information related to BMC accounts.

The spare node function is realized by using the server management API that the BMC provides. It is necessary to assign privileges required for using the server management API provided by the BMC to BMC accounts. This section applies the setting example of an account for an iLO that is the BMC of Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series.

CAUTION:

Server models other than those described in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Hardware Compatibility Reference do not support the spare node function, and therefore might not allow for spare node switchover. For details about server models that support spare node switchover, see the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Hardware Compatibility Reference.

The procedure described further on in this section is for operations on an iLO. Perform the procedure for all the storage nodes in a storage cluster. For details about specific operations, see the documentation provided by physical server vendors.

  1. Log in to the iLO web console of a storage node.
  2. Add an iLO user account or directory group with the following privileges.

    • Virtual power and reset

    • Configure iLO settings

When you use an existing user account or existing directory group, verify that those privileges have been assigned. If those privileges have not been assigned, assign them by editing user accounts or editing directory groups. For details about specific operations, see the documentation provided by physical server vendors.

    CAUTION:

Incorrect setting of those privileges will render spare node switchover unsuccessful. When using the spare node function, verify that you assign the privileges.
