To enable the data reduction function for a volume after setup, follow the steps below.

In the following cases, the data reduction function of volumes cannot be enabled.

  • The procedures described in this section cannot be used to enable the data reduction function of volumes whose universalReplicatorAttribute is "P-VOL" or "S-VOL." To enable the data reduction function for such volumes, delete the Universal Replicator pair, create a volume with data reduction enabled by performing the procedures in this section, and then create a pair by using this volume with Universal Replicator.
  • The data reduction function cannot be enabled for volumes whose volumeType is "Journal" or "FormerJournal."
  • Required role: Service

  1. Verify whether the state of write back mode with cache protection is enabled.

To verify the state of the write back mode with cache protection and enable it, see Enabling the write back mode with cache protection.

  2. Create a volume with data reduction enabled.

    For details, see Creating volumes.

  3. Verify whether there is data to be taken over from a volume with the data reduction disabled.

If there is no data to transfer, this is the end of the procedure.

If there is data to transfer, go to the next step.

  4. Copy data via the host to the created volume with data reduction enabled.
  5. If necessary, delete the volume from which you copied the data.
  6. Verify whether any of the backed up data migrated to a volume with data reduction enabled.

If there is backed up data, go to the next step.

If there is no backed up data, this is the end of the procedure.

  7. Restore the backed up data to a volume with data reduction enabled.
