When you configure a storage cluster with a contract for VSP One SDS Block selected in AWS Marketplace, the Floating license as a base license of VSP One SDS Block is registered in this storage cluster. The license period and licensed capacity for the Floating license are managed by the AWS License Manager license.

Note that the following considerations apply to the AWS License Manager license for the products that apply contract-based charge.

CAUTION:

To purchase additional licensed capacity for the current AWS License Manager license, you need to resign a contract going back to the beginning of the license period in some cases. For this reason, determine the licensed capacity by taking into consideration that you might add logical capacity of the storage pool in the future.

  • Sign a contract for the AWS License Manager license while performing the initial procedures for Configuring a storage cluster. Therefore, you need to determine the license period and licensed capacity before configuring a storage cluster.
  • Only one AWS License Manager license contract can be made for the AWS account. Different license contracts cannot be made for each storage cluster. When you configure multiple storage clusters for the same AWS account, the licensed capacity is shared.
  • The licensed capacity of the AWS License Manager license applies to the storage pool logical capacity of VSP One SDS Block. For how to design the capacity, see Capacity Design (for HPEC 4D+2P) or Capacity design (for Mirroring) in the VSP One SDS Block System Administrator Operation Guide.
  • When calculating the licensed capacity necessary for the AWS License Manager license, round up the storage pool logical capacity of VSP One SDS Block to the unit of TiB.

When multiple storage clusters are configured in the same AWS account, round up the storage pool logical capacity of each storage cluster to the unit of TiB first, and then sum the total to make sure that the total logical capacity is within the licensed capacity of the AWS License Manager license.

Example: If there are two storage clusters, one of which has 31.3 [TiB] and the other one has 47.7 [TiB] as storage pool logical capacity, round up those values to integers 32 [TiB] and 48 [TiB] respectively, and then sum the total as 80 [TiB].
