You can modify the capacity saving setting (deduplication and compression) for volumes.

When the capacity saving setting of a volume is set to Deduplication and compression, you cannot change the capacity saving setting of that volume to Compression.

If you change the capacity saving settings while it is enabled, rehydrating data might take some time.

If the storage system is VSP One B26 or VSP One B28, you can use compression acceleration. We recommend using compression acceleration because it allows you to reduce the load that data compression places on the storage system. Note that changing the capacity savings compression method when using compression acceleration means that the new method is applied to all volume data and the processing takes some time.

For details on the capacity saving function, see the Provisioning Guide.

  • Identify the server name.
  • Identify the volume name.
  • Check whether the capacity saving setting is specified.
  • Check whether compression acceleration is set.
  • If the planned changes can impact the free space on the pool, check the current amount of free space.
  • Make sure that the user performing the procedure has been assigned the Storage Administrator (Provisioning) role.
  1. From the navigation tree, select Storage > Servers. If you are not using VSP One Block Administrator to manage servers, from the navigation tree, select Storage > Volumes, and then go to step 3.
  2. Click the server name to open the server details page.
  3. From the inventory of volumes, select the check box for the target volume, and then click Edit Volumes in the action bar.

You can select multiple volumes and modify the capacity saving setting at the same time.

  4. Modify the capacity saving setting.
  5. Click the volume name to open the details page, and then confirm that the settings are specified correctly.
