Configuring multiple vCenters requires planning. For example, if you have a single physical UCP solution, but you want to spread the solution's hardware across three different vCenters, then you must split the hardware into three different UCP systems to accommodate the needs of the IT infrastructure. To do this, set up your environment similar to the following example environment:
- vCenter 1 containing 4 servers in a management cluster (Management) with UCP Advisor and other IT-related services installed.
- vCenter 2 containing 17 servers in a production server cluster (Cluster 1).
- vCenter 3 containing 12 servers in a second production server cluster (Cluster 2).
Any time you split up a physical UCP solution into separate pieces that will be onboarded to different UCP systems, create an onboarding worksheet for each system that contains only the compute elements that are to be onboarded to that system, and then create a separate onboarding worksheet for onboarding to all the UCP systems that contains the common switches and storage that are present in the physical system. See "Onboarding worksheet details" in the Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP) Administration Guide.
The following four onboarding worksheets must be created to set up the environment described above:
- Management compute worksheet containing only the 4 nodes used in the management cluster.
- Cluster 1 compute worksheet containing only the 17 nodes used in Cluster 1.
- Cluster 2 compute worksheet containing only the 12 nodes used in Cluster 2.
- Common worksheet containing the Fibre Channel and Ethernet switches, and the storage system.
