You can install UCP Advisor as one of the following users:

  • root
  • ucpadmin (Recommended)
  1. Log on to vSphere Client using your credentials, and then navigate to the ESXi host where you want to deploy the OVA file.
  2. Right-click the host, and then select Deploy OVF Template.

    Select Deploy OVF Template option

  3. Select the Local file option, and then click Upload Files.

    Important:
    • Verify that the host name does not include an underscore (_).

  11. Review the UCP Advisor VM settings, and then click Finish to deploy the OVA.

Review the UCP Advisor VM settings

Wait for the OVA deployment to complete.

  12. Power on the UCP Advisor VM.
Wait approximately 10 minutes while the UCP Advisor VM is being configured and the IP address become reachable over the network.
  13. Power off the UCP Advisor VM.
  14. (Optional) Attach the command devices to the UCP Advisor VM. See Provisioning a command device for the UCP Advisor Master Node VM.
Note: This is not applicable for a UCP hyperconverged (HC) system.
  15. Take a VMware snapshot of the UCP Advisor VM.
  16. Power on the UCP Advisor VM.
  17. Log on to the UCP Advisor VM as ucpadmin.
  18. Navigate to the folder where you extracted the ucpadvisor-air-gapped-v4.5.0-88.tar.gz file, copy it to the /home/ucpadmin folder on the UCP Advisor VM, and then extract the installer package. Enter:
    tar -xvzf ucpadvisor-air-gapped-v4.5.0-88.tar.gz
  19. Navigate to the /installer folder, and then install UCP Advisor. Enter:
    sudo ./installer -m <Master Node VM IP address> [-P|<-u <username> -p <password>] [-c <command devices list>] -s <SCP server IP address> [-lsd SDX]
    where:
    • -m: Master Node VM IP address
    • -P | <-u -p>: If you use the -u -p flags, you must enter the username and password in the command. However, if you use the -P flag, then you must enter the username and password when prompted.
    • -c: (Optional) Specify the list of command devices that must be used.
Note: This is not applicable for a UCP hyperconverged (HC) system.
    • -s: SCP server IP address.
    • -lsd: (Optional) Specify if you want to use LVM to back up or restore the /root disk partition. Use the 200 GB Linux device to create the LVM snapshot.
    For example:
    sudo ./installer -m 192.168.10.10 -u ucpadmin -p Password -c sdc sdd -s 192.168.10.20 -lsd sdb
    Note:
    • Command devices that are already attached to the UCP Advisor VM are automatically detected during UCP Advisor installation.
    • By default the installer script installs a new instance of UCP Advisor. Any previous or existing UCP Advisor installations are removed.
    • If you want to install UCP Advisor as a root user, you must log on to the Master Node VM with the root user credentials.
After UCP Advisor is successfully installed, the following message is displayed:
Congratulations, the installation is successful. The UCP Advisor console UI should be available at https://<Master Node VM IP address>
In future, if user wants to add or remove command device, must do it on <Master Node VM IP address>
Note: The LVM snapshot is deleted after a successful UCP Advisor installation.
  1. Launch UCP Advisor:
    1. Copy the Master Node VM IP address displayed in the message above, and then paste it into a browser address bar.

    2. Enter the default credentials:
      • Username: ucpadmin
      • Password: overrunsurveysroutewarnssent
    3. Reset the default password.
Note: Verify that the password contains at least 8 alphanumeric characters, one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, a number, and a special character. Do not use common words.
  2. If you configured command devices during UCP Advisor installation, verify that they are successfully added. In a web browser, enter the following URL:
    https://<UCP-Advisor-Address>:8444/services/cmd-devices

This lists all the command devices.

  3. (Optional) Provision a new command device for the UCP Advisor Master Node VM if it was not attached to the VM prior to installing UCP Advisor. See Provisioning a command device for the UCP Advisor Master Node VM.
Note: This is not applicable for a UCP hyperconverged (HC) system.
  4. Begin adding:
    • Users and groups: see "Managing users and groups" in the Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP) Advisor Administration Guide.
    • UCP systems and devices: see "Adding devices to a UCP system" in the Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP) Advisor Administration Guide.
