Create a new converged infrastructure (CI) management cluster using the Service Console OVA, configure the network settings, and then launch the Service Console in a web browser to complete the vCenter configuration. This workflow also deploys vCenter to your environment.
- Prepare a system or a laptop that meets the following requirements:
- 400 GB of free disk space
- 4 CPUs and 24 GB of CPU memory (minimum)
- VMware Workstation 16 Player is installed (available at www.vmware.com).
- User account with administration rights (Dual Access)
- The laptop is connected to the management switch.
- Verify that the SOL settings on the compute nodes are enabled. See "Enabling SOL settings on ESXi server" in Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP) Advisor Administration Guide.
- Prepare your environment for deploying the Service Console VM to a new management cluster:
- All nodes
Important: For a UCP Converged Infrastructure (UCP CI) solution, ensure that at least one node satisfies the following conditions:
- The node is not part of either a vCenter cluster or a VDS port group.
- A minimum of two VM NICs are physically connected.
- A datastore is created with a minimum free disk space of 600 GB.
- The BMC and ESXi usernames and passwords for all nodes are set to the following Hitachi-provided default values:
- BMC Username: admin
- ESXi Username: root
- BMC and ESXi Password (default): Hitachi_supplied_default_password
- All nodes are assigned an IPv4 address in the specified subnet range and they are reachable for autodiscovery.
- Other
- The NTP server is reachable.
- Both physical NICs are configured identically (the VLAN ID, for example) for migrating hosts from standard switches to distributed virtual switches.
- The VDS port group (VLAN ID) for the UCP Advisor management VMS and management port group are the same for UCP Advisor deployment.
- The minimum datastore requirement is available in the datacenter where vCenter will be deployed.
- Download the UCP Advisor Installation Media from Hitachi Vantara Support to a local directory.
- Log on to Hitachi Support Connect Portal using your credentials.
- On the Software Download tab, select UCP Advisor.
- From the Versions list, select version 4.5.0.
- Locate and then download the 26 GB UCP Advisor Installation Media file.
- Locate and then download the UCP Advisor VMware Image file to a local directory on your laptop.
Note: You can also download the latest vCenter VCSA image
VMware-VCSA-all-8.0.2-22385739 from
http://www.vmware.com.
- Log on to vSphere Client and then navigate to the management cluster where you want to deploy UCP Advisor.
- Right-click the management cluster, and then select Deploy OVF Template.
- Select the Local file option, and then click Upload Files.
- Browse to the local directory where you unzipped the UCP Advisor Installation Media file, and then select: Software/Hitachi-UCPAdvisor-ServiceConsole-4.5.0.ova. Click Open.
- Verify the selected file, and then click Next.
- Enter a unique name for the virtual machine, or accept the default name. The target location is selected by default. Click Next.
- The compute resource is selected by default. Click Next.
- Review the deployment details, and then click Next.
Note: You can ignore any certificate warnings.
- From Select virtual disk format, select Thin Provision, and then select the datastore for deployment. Ensure that the datastore that you select has sufficient free space for the deployment. Click Next.
- Select the VM network for your management cluster. Click Next.
- Customize the following settings for the Service Console VM, and then click Next:
- IP Address
- The IPv4 address for the Service Console VM.
- Netmask
- The IPv4 netmask address.
- Gateway
- The Gateway IPv4 address for the Service Console VM.
- Hostname
- The host name for the Service Console VM.
- DNS Servers (optional)
- The IPv4 addresses for the domain name servers.
- NTP Server (optional)
- The URL or IP address to an NTP server.
- ucpadmin user password
- The password for the Service Console VM. This is the ucpadmin VM user password and it is different from the password that is used to launch the Service Console VM.
Note: You can use this password when you log on to SSH as a root user.
- Review the deployment summary, and then click Finish. You can monitor the deployment status on the Tasks page ().
- After the deployment is completed, power on the new Service Console VM, wait approximately 10 minutes for the services to come up, and then verify that the VM is reachable over the network.
- Mount the vCenter image on the Service Console VM:
- Copy the UCP Advisor VMware Image file that you downloaded in step 1.e to the /home/VCSA_INSTALLER/ directory.
- Using SSH, log on to the Service Console VM as ucpadmin.
- Navigate to the /home/VCSA_INSTALLER/ directory.
- Run the vcsa-script.sh as a sudo user. Enter:
sudo ./vcsa-script.sh
Enter the sudo user password when prompted.
The script takes about 10 minutes to complete.
- Enter the VCSA.iso file name when prompted.
- Verify that the VCSA image was successfully mounted. You should see a Mount successful message after running the script.
- In a web browser, enter the IP address for the Service Console VM that you entered in step 12.
- Log on to the Service Console using the following default credentials:
- Username: ucpadmin
- Password: ucpadmin
Note: These credentials apply to the Service Console. They do not apply to the Service Console VM where you deployed the Service Console OVA.
- Reset your password.
