If LU paths are defined for volumes with different serial numbers on a port on the EMC Symmetrix series, the volumes cannot be mapped as external volumes from the local storage system.

To map the volumes with different serial numbers on a port on the EMC Symmetrix series, take either of the following actions so that the serial number is the same among the volumes on the port. For more information about how to use the EMC Symmetrix series, see the EMC Symmetrix series documentation.

  • Release the virtualization function on the EMC Symmetrix series.
  • For each serial number, use a different port with an LU path defined on the EMC Symmetrix series.

If the volumes are mapped as external volumes from the local storage system without taking either of the actions above, either of the following blockages might occur:

  • If a volume is newly mapped to a port on the local storage system:

If you map a volume whose serial number differs from that of the first volume defined on the port on the EMC Symmetrix series, the mapped external volume with the different serial number is blocked due to the serial number mismatch.

  • If a mapped volume already exists on a port on the local storage system:

If you map a volume, which is defined on the same port with the already mapped volume defined on the EMC Symmetrix series, whose serial number differs from that of the already mapped volume, the newly mapped external volume is blocked due to the serial number mismatch.
