If the capacity of only one volume in a Thin Image Advanced pair is successfully expanded, while the other cannot be expanded, the resynchronization of the Thin Image Advanced pair fails after the volume expansion because the capacities of the two volumes do not match. When a Thin Image Advanced pair is used with TC, GAD, UR, or SI, if the capacity of the P-VOL and the S-VOL for one of the replication software products fails to be expanded, it is considered that the expansion of the capacity of all associated volumes is not complete.

The following describes the procedure for recovering from this invalid state.

  1. Check that both the P-VOL and the S-VOL used in the target Thin Image Advanced pair meet the prerequisites for expanding volume capacity as described in Expanding DRS-VOL capacity used in a Thin Image Advanced pair .
When a Thin Image Advanced pair is used with TC, GAD, UR, or SI, you need to expand the capacity of the P-VOLs and the S-VOLs for all replication software products that are used together. Check that all the associated volumes meet the prerequisites for expanding volume capacity as described in the User Guide for each replication software product. If the prerequisites are not met, proceed to step 4.
  2. When the prerequisites for expanding volume capacity are met for the target Thin Image Advanced pair, retry capacity expansion, and make sure that the capacity of the P-VOL and that of the S-VOL match.
If there is not enough free space in the DRS-VOLs, increase the free space, and then expand the capacity of the DRS-VOLs. When a Thin Image Advanced pair is used with TC, GAD, UR, or SI, retry expanding the capacity of the volumes for all replication software products that are used together, and make sure that the capacity of the P-VOL and that of the S-VOL in each replication program’s pair match.

As a result of the above operations, do one of the following.

    • If volume expansion is successful, proceed to step 3.
    • If volume expansion is unsuccessful, proceed to step 4.
  3. Check that volume expansion is not in progress for the Thin Image Advanced pair.
If you can confirm that volume expansion is not in progress, recovery is complete.
  4. Delete the Thin Image Advanced pair, perform volume expansion when the Thin Image Advanced pair enters the SMPL status, then re-create the Thin Image Advanced pair.
    • If you want to restore the Thin Image Advanced pair to a state before volume expansion due to a capacity input error or for other reasons:
      1. Delete the Thin Image Advanced pair.
      2. Re-create the LDEVs with the correct capacity.
      3. Re-create the Thin Image Advanced pair.
    • If the capacity of the P-VOL and that of the S-VOL used in a Thin Image Advanced pair or an SI pair do not match:

You can only delete the Thin Image Advanced pair or the SI pair. However, you can read earlier data (before volume expansion) from the S-VOL of the Thin Image Advanced pair or the SI pair. If you want to use the data before the volume expansion, delete all pairs after you complete reading it.
