The following figure shows the steps of preparations for using Thin Image Advanced and the steps of using Thin Image Advanced. For information about operating on pairs, see Managing Thin Image Advanced pairs.
Notes about steps for configuring Thin Image Advanced:
Note: The V-VOL management area must be
created in shared memory. It is created automatically when shared memory is added. For
details, contact customer support.
- This step is unnecessary if you assign an existing DRS-VOL to the P-VOL and use the same DP pool containing the existing DRS-VOL. For details about how to create a DP pool, see the Provisioning Guide for your storage system.
- This step is unnecessary if you create a pair without specifying an S-VOL. You can create a pair without specifying an S-VOL when the host does not need to access snapshot data. If the host subsequently needs to access snapshot data, you can assign an S-VOL to snapshot data.
After you create a Thin Image Advanced pair and store snapshot data, you can leave the Thin Image Advanced pair as it is. However, the maximum number of pairs you can create in a single snapshot tree is limited to 1,024. You probably need to delete unnecessary snapshot data and Thin Image Advanced pairs.
