Create a DRS-VOL in the DP pool containing the existing volume for which you want to change the LDEV type (to DRS-VOL). Changing the LDEV type means copying the data in the existing volume to the DRS-VOL (in this case, using ShadowImage). Use this method if you want to create a volume of the new LDEV type in the DP pool containing the original volume. For this method, you need to shut down the host operations when switching to the new volume.

For details about how to use ShadowImage, see the Hitachi ShadowImage® User Guide.

  1. In the DP pool containing the existing volume for which you want to change the LDEV type, create a DRS-VOL.
  2. Use ShadowImage to copy the data in the existing volume (source volume) to the new volume (target volume) created in step 1.
  3. Stop the host operations and split the ShadowImage pair.
  4. Assign the volume (target volume) used as the ShadowImage S-VOL to the host.
  5. When the host recognizes the volume, restart the host operations.
  6. Delete the ShadowImage pair.
  7. Delete the volume (source volume) used as the P-VOL of the ShadowImage pair.
