The only volumes you can use for Thin Image Advanced pairs are DRS-VOLs. If the existing volume you want to use as the P-VOL is not a DRS-VOL, you need to copy or move the data in the existing volume to a DRS-VOL.

The following three methods are available to copy or move data to DRS-VOLs. Select a method that suits your work requirements, such as whether you want to use the same DP pool containing the source volume after you copy or move data to a volume of the new LDEV type (DRS-VOL) or whether you can stop host I/O operations.

Work requirements Stopping host operations LDEV type change procedure
  • You need to create a DRS-VOL in the same DP pool containing the source volume.
  • You need to minimize load on the host.
Required (mandatory when the LDEV number is changed) Migrating data to Thin Image Advanced-compatible volumes using ShadowImage
  • You need to create a DRS-VOL in a DP pool different from the怀one containing the source volume.
  • The existing volume you want to use as the P-VOL of a Thin Image Advanced pair is a normal volume.
  • You need to copy or move data (change the LDEV type) without stopping the host.
  • You need to copy or move data (change the LDEV type) while keeping TrueCopy,Universal Replicator, global-active device, or ShadowImage pairs.
Not required Migrating data to Thin Image Advanced-compatible volumes using Volume Migration
