The external path is the physical link from the local storage system port to the storage system port. You prepare the ports on the local and external systems and then set up the external path prior to mapping your external volumes.
To prepare and set up ports, see the following sections:
- Setting port attributes on the local system (VSP 5000 series)
- Setting up ports on the external system
You can use cable connections to establish multiple paths between the external storage system and the local storage system. Connect the cables from ports of different clusters on the local storage system to the external storage system.
If both storage systems are connected with multiple paths, when an external volume is mapped, a start point (a port on the local storage system connected to the external storage system) and an end point (a WWN or an iSCSI target name of a port on the external storage system) of the path are displayed on the window. On this window, you can configure the external path by selecting the start point and the end point of the path according to the actual cable connection.
If the external storage system is connected by using an iSCSI interface, make sure to use a port on the 10 Gbps iSCSI channel board. A port on the 25 Gbps iSCSI channel board cannot be used for the iSCSI connection between the storage systems.
