The advanced system settings allow the storage systems to be configured to specific customer operating requirements. You can change the advanced system settings in the Edit Advanced System Settings window. For more information about how to change the advanced system settings, see the System Administrator Guide.

You can use the advanced system settings No. 5 and No. 6 to change the differential data management method for a TC, TCMF, UR,URMF, or GAD pair. The following table shows how the advanced system settings No. 5 works with No. 6.

Advanced system settings Description
No. 5 No. 6 Create operation Resync operation
Disabled Disabled Apply the shared memory (SM) difference management at the new pair creation. Change the differential data management method of the existing pair from the hierarchical difference management to the SM difference management when the pair is resynchronized and the pair status changes to PAIR after No. 5 and No. 6 settings.
Enabled Apply the hierarchical difference management at the new pair creation. The differential data management method of the existing pair is not changed.

The SM difference or hierarchical difference management for a pair remains unchanged after the pair resynchronization.

Enabled Disabled Apply the hierarchical difference management at the new pair creation. Change the differential data management method of the existing pair from the SM difference management to the hierarchical difference management when the pair is resynchronized and the pair status changes to PAIR after No. 5 and No. 6 settings.
Notes:
  • If the user capacity of a volume used in a TC, TCMF, UR,URMF, or GAD pair exceeds 4,194,304 MB for an open volume (only DP-VOL) or 262,668 Cyl for a mainframe volume, the differential data management for the target volume is enabled by the hierarchical difference at the new pair creation regardless of the settings for the advanced system settings No. 5 and No. 6.
  • Make the same settings of the advanced system settings No. 5 and No. 6 for both the primary and secondary storage systems.
  • If the system option mode (SOM) 1198 or 1199 is applied, the difference management method with SOM 1198 or 1199 takes precedence. For more information, see the System Administrator Guide.
