You can use Volume Shredder to shred volumes including host-facing LDEVs, Dynamic Provisioning virtual volumes, and external volumes. When a shredding operation is performed on an unused virtual volume for Dynamic Provisioning, no dummy data is written to the volume.
Volume Shredder does not support the following types of volumes:
- Pool volumes
You can shred data on a pool volume if first you delete the pool to which those pool volumes belong, or delete those pool volumes from the pool in which they belong.
- Journal volumes
- Volumes that are not write-enabled (access attribute is not read/write)
- Virtual volumes for which the capacity saving function is enabled
- Deduplication system data volumes
- Volumes belonging to parity groups under dynamic sparing
- Volumes belonging to parity groups under correction access
- Volumes belonging to parity groups under copy back
