Because of the way data is written on drives, overwriting data once or twice might not be enough to ensure that the data cannot be restored. The best practice is to overwrite data at least three times with dummy data. Volume Shredder allows you to execute a shred command multiple times, thereby specifying the number of times the data is overwritten, which enables you to ensure compliance with any applicable requirements (for example, DoD5220.22-M).
Note: For flash drives, complete data erasure (overwriting all cells including over-provisioned cells) cannot be guaranteed. For more information about data erasure for flash drives (for example, cryptographic erasure, data eradication services), contact customer support.
Volume shredding can be performed by using CCI or REST API. You can determine the capacity of a target volumes by using VSP One Block Administrator or the REST API.
