A V-VOL created in Dynamic Provisioning differs from a V-VOL in Thin Image Advanced and must be associated with a pool from the beginning of the operation.

Multiple V-VOLs can be created in Dynamic Provisioning.

A data reduction shared volume (DRS-VOL) used as a volume of a Thin Image Advanced pair is a DP-VOL created in Dynamic Provisioning. Creating the DRS-VOL requires adaptive data reduction. For more information about the DRS-VOL, see DRS-VOLs. For information about the procedure for creating the DRS-VOL, see the VSP One Block Thin Image Advanced User Guide.

The T10 PI attribute can be set only when creating an LDEV. The attribute cannot be released from the LDEV with the T10 PI attribute set.

If the LDEV status of a deduplication system data volume in the selected pool is normal, deduplication and compression of capacity saving cannot be selected.

The capacity saving status is disabled under the following conditions:

  • The data direct mapping attribute is enabled.
  • The license of the capacity saving feature is not installed.

When a V-VOL with deduplication and compression enabled is created in the pool first, a deduplication system data volume is automatically created at the same time.

A pool specified when creating a V-VOL must meet one of the following conditions:

  • Normal status
  • The used capacity of the pool exceeds the depletion threshold.
  • Pool is being shrunk.

If you want to create a V-VOL whose capacity saving setting is deduplication and compression, the following conditions must be met::

  • The LDEV status of a deduplication system data volume (fingerprint) is normal if the volume already exists.
  • The LDEV status of a deduplication system data volume (data store) is normal if the volume already exists.
  • If deduplication system data volumes (data store) already exist in the pool, those volumes are not being deleted.
