Supported functions:

  • Using a V-VOL as a migration source or a migration target.
  • The maximum capacity of a V-VOL used as a migration source or target is the same as the maximum capacity of a V-VOL.

Not supported functions:

  • Using on pool-VOLs.
  • Increasing the capacity of V-VOL used by Volume Migration.
  • Reclaiming zero pages of V-VOL used by Volume Migration.
  • Using on a deduplication system data volume.
  • Deleting the DRD-VOL with capacity saving enabled used by Volume Migration.
  • Initializing duplicated data for the pool containing the DRD-VOL with capacity saving enabled used by Volume Migration.

In addition, you can use Dynamic Provisioning in combination with Volume Migration to migrate V-VOLs.

You cannot specify a Dynamic Provisioning pool-VOL as a Volume Migration source volume and target volume.

If you specify the V-VOL as the source volume, you must not specify the V-VOL that uses the same pool of the source volume.

For more information about the migration of V-VOLs used in the following software products, see VSP One Block Volume Migration User Guide.

  • TrueCopy
  • Universal Replicator
  • A V-VOL used in a GAD pair cannot be migrated.

This figure shows the interaction when the Volume Migration source volume and target volume are also DRD-VOLs.

This table shows the combinations of DRD-VOLs supported when Dynamic Provisioning is used with Volume Migration to migrate DRD-VOLs.

Volume Migration source volume Volume Migration target volume Explanation
DRD-VOLs DRD-VOLs Supported
DRD-VOLs External volumes* Supported
External volumes* DRD-VOLs Supported.
  • Note that this combination consumes the same amount of pool capacity as the external volume* used as the source volume. For this reason, you should not use this combination.
  • If the target volume meets the following condition, use CCI to perform the operations in Volume Migration.

A DRD-VOL with capacity saving enabled and with pool capacity less than that of the source volume.

* For details about the external volume, see the VSP One Block Universal Volume Manager User Guide.
