Multipath connections

Use the multipath configuration to connect hosts and storage systems. To do that, storage systems require redundant paths.

A 100-Gbps Ethernet channel board requires approximately 130 seconds at maximum before I/O restart for reboot during update of its firmware or for reset if a failure occurs. To continue host I/O during this time, use the multipath configuration to connect storage systems to hosts.

Note: If the single path configuration is used, host I/O might stop, or a host I/O error might occur because the 100-Gbps Ethernet channel board cannot continue host I/O for approximately 130 seconds at maximum during reboot for firmware update or during reset due to a failure.

To create the multipath configuration, use the ports of the channel boards on different controller boards. If you cannot use the channel boards on different controller boards, use the ports of different channel boards.

You cannot create a multipath configuration by using ports on different types of 100-Gbps Ethernet channel boards. In an environment in which different 100-Gbps Ethernet channel boards coexist, create a multipath configuration by using ports on 100-Gbps Ethernet channel boards of the same type.

100-Gbps Ethernet channel board ports

Follow these precautions:

  • The same IP address cannot be assigned to multiple ports. For this reason, you cannot apply the IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP).
  • The ports cannot be used for remote paths or external paths.
  • Auto negotiation cannot be set as the transfer speed. Set the transfer speed of the CHB port to 100 Gbps.
  • Selective ACK is enabled and cannot be disabled.
  • If you use Router Advertisement (RA) to automatically set the default gateway, do not manually set the IP address of the default gateway. If you set it manually, performance delays might occur when multiple IPv6 routers exist in the same network. If you must set it manually, do not use options for which an IP address must be specified when you run the CCI raidcom modify port command.
