This section is divided into two parts; the first part serves as a checklist for setting up a Pentaho Server, and the second consists of prerequisites that you must perform before going live with your production server. If you already have your production server ready to go, skip ahead to the tasks listed in the Pentaho Server Set Up Checklist table shown below.

Obtain Software and Install the Pentaho Server Perform the following actions:
  • Install Pentaho Suite. See Install Pentaho Data Integration and Analytics for instructions.
  • Download and install the latest service pack. See Administer Pentaho Data Integration and Analytics for instructions.
  • Access the User Console. See Pentaho Analytics for instructions.
  • Installed the software.
  • Installed the latest service pack.
  • Accessed the User Console, toured the Administration page, and changed the default administrator password.

Change the Server Fully Qualified URL Change the Pentaho Server's fully qualified URL if necessary. See Administer Pentaho Data Integration and Analytics for instructions. If you are going to have many machines pointing to one server, make sure you change the fully qualified URL and verify that you can connect to it.
Configure the Server Perform the following actions:
  • Manage the licenses. See Administer Pentaho Data Integration and Analytics for instructions.
  • Specify the data connections for the Pentaho Server. See Install Pentaho Data Integration and Analytics for instructions.
  • Set up emails for scheduled reports. See Pentaho Analytics for instructions.
  • Set up your data connections.
  • Configured an email server through the Administration page.
This checklist guides you through the tasks you need to do to ensure a smooth transition from a development server to a live production server.

  • Established JNDI sources as replacements if needed.

  • Manage users and roles. See Pentaho Analytics for instructions.
  • Implement advanced security. See Administer Pentaho Data Integration and Analytics for instructions.
  • Security is implemented.
  • Users, roles, and permissions are defined.
