You can select volumes and migrate them immediately or on a schedule.

You must be a storage administrator to migrate volumes.

Note: Ops Center Administrator limits the number of volumes you can migrate at any one time to 300, because of the high load to the storage system and the long processing time.

For internal migration, ensure the following:

  • All selected volumes belong to a single storage system that is managed in Ops Center Administrator.
  • All selected volumes will be migrated to a different pool of the same storage system.
  • All selected volumes are attached to servers.
  • The volumes are not protected. However, a clone pair can be migrated if the P-VOL status is PSUS and the S-VOLs status is SSUS.
  • The storage system has at least one eligible pool (Thin or Tiered) with enough space to migrate volumes.

For external migration, ensure the following:

  • The target storage system must be onboarded in Ops Center Administrator.
  • The source volumes must be virtualized and selectable as external volumes.
  • The target storage system must have at least one eligible pool (Thin or Tiered) with enough space to migrate volumes.
  1. For internal migration, navigate to one of the following to select volumes:
    • The Volumes window
    • The details window for a volume
    • The details window for a server
    • The details window for a pool
  2. For external migration, navigate to the External Volumes window.
  3. Select volumes to migrate, then click Migrate volumes.

  5. In Volume Settings you can choose a type of Capacity Savings and select a Volume ID / Range. You can also set up cleanup tasks by selecting Shred Source Volumes and Delete Source Volumes.

When you select these options, Ops Center Administrator will shred and/or delete source volumes after a successful migration

The default selection for Volume ID / Range is Auto, which allows automatic selection. You can select either a Decimal or Hexadecimal range and enter the endpoints of the range.

The default selection for Shred Source Volumes is No and the default selection for Delete Source Volumes is Yes.

    Click Next.

  6. In Task Settings, choose to Migrate Now or Migrate Later:
    • Migrate Now needs a Migration Task Name.
    • Migrate Later needs a Migration Task Name, a Start Time, and a Start Date. You can change the schedule or discard it after submitting the task.
  7. Click Submit and confirm that you want to migrate the volume.
