When using external migration, volumes must be virtualized before they can be
migrated.
Perform the steps to attach volumes to storage and discover external storage.
-
Navigate to
External Volumes on the target storage system.
-
Click the plus (+) sign to open the Create
External Volumes window.
A list of discovered volumes appears.
- Select the discovered volumes, then click Next.
-
In the Volume Settings window, you can use
Volume Settings to select a Volume ID /
Range. Use the default selection Auto, to
allow automatic selection of the volume. You can select either a
Decimal or Hexadecimal range
and enter the endpoints of the range. Click Next.
- You can confirm which Volume IDs will be used by clicking View Proposed Volume ID Selection.
To mandate using volume IDs shown in pop-up dialog, select
Yes under
Mandate Using Displayed Volume ID.
Note: The Mandate Using Displayed Volume ID selection will be reset to No if you move back to the previous step.
- Select servers to attach external volumes to be created, then click Next. To create external volumes without attaching to servers, click Next without selecting servers.
-
You can view servers and their WWNs, along with ports on the storage system.
For VSP 5000 series storage systems, you can click a port to display a list of ports with their DKC locations, CTL locations, and redundancy levels.
The following options are available for managing LUN paths:
- When the settings are complete, click Submit.
- After virtualization completes successfully, go to the server and locate and mount the newly attached external volume. This changes the I/O from the older volume(LUN) to the new LUN. This action is required before data can be migrated and will ensure that no data is lost in the process.
- Select volumes on the External Volumes window and migrate them.
