You can create and initialize pool volumes on an external parity
group if pool volumes have not been created. You can also format any pool volumes that
are in blocked state. You can initialize external parity groups under the following
conditions:
- When the external parity group either does not have any pool volumes or at least one of the pool volumes is in Blocked state. In this case, the external parity group status is UNINITIALIZED.
- When the pool volumes on the external parity group do not account for the entire external parity group capacity and there are unused partitions on the external parity group. In this case, the external parity group status is AVAILABLE_PHYSICAL, IN_USE, or UNINITIALIZED.
Note: If you try to initialize an external parity group in a Blocked state, the job
may take a long time to complete, or fail with a timeout error because the quick
format option is not available on the storage system. If the job fails, check the
parity group state in the External Parity Groups
Inventory.
- Navigate to External Parity Groups on the storage system.
- To initialize external parity groups, click Initialize External Parity Groups.
