This section details the recommended cluster setup to prepare your HCI system for Kubernetes.
Recommended cluster configuration
In order to install, deploy, and maintain HCI 3.0 successfully, the following is the recommended configuration for clusters containing between 4 and 200 nodes:
- Node 1 set up as both a control plane and worker node.
- Node 2 set up as both a control plane and worker node.
- Node 3 set up as both a control plane and worker node.
- Any additional nodes set up to run as worker nodes only.
For a typical Kubernetes environments, 3 control plane nodes provide the ideal balance of high availability, fault tolerance, resource efficiency, and cost effectiveness. Your desired setup may vary.
Important: A minimum of 3 nodes is required in order to successfully install HCI on your system.
