Hitachi Ops Center consists of multiple products with features that enable you to administer, automate, optimize, and protect your Hitachi storage infrastructure.

Before you install and configure the product, you must be familiar with the available system configurations, authentication methods, and installation options. For more information, see the product overview.

This document provides a high-level look at the main steps required to install and configure Hitachi Ops Center by using the product installers with links to more detailed information.

Note: If you plan to install your software on Oracle Linux, you should consider deploying by using the consolidated OVA, which includes Oracle Linux and significantly streamlines the deployment process.

Step 1: Verify the system requirements and prerequisites

For a complete list of Hitachi Ops Center system requirements, go to the Ops Center documentation site and select Hitachi Ops Center System Requirements.

Step 2: Download the software

To download the software:
  1. Log in to Support Connect.
  2. Select Download Products and Updates.
  3. Under Software Download, scroll down and select Ops Center Installation Media.
  4. Download the Express installer and individual product installers as needed.

Step 3: Deploy the software

You deploy the software by installing each of the following components. Although your environment may require a different configuration, the following describes a typical deployment that includes all the Ops Center products.

A typical deployment consists of two virtual or physical servers as follows:

Server 1:

  • Ops Center Common Services
  • Ops Center Automator
  • Ops Center Analyzer server
  • Ops Center Analyzer detail view server
  • Ops Center Protector (Master)
  • Ops Center API Configuration Manager
  • Ops Center Administrator

Server 2:

  • Analyzer probe server
  • Ops Center Protector ISM client

The following procedure provides the high-level steps for installing the Ops Center products on Linux. Although some products support installing on Windows, we recommend installing all the products on Linux to minimize the number of required servers. After you finish this basic setup, you can go back to each product and complete the product-specific initial configuration and setup.

I. Server 1 installation

  1. Install Common Services
  2. Install Automator
  3. Install Analyzer (includes Analyzer detail view)
  4. Install Protector
  5. Install Ops Center API Configuration Manager
  6. Install Administrator

II. Server 2 installation

  1. Install Analyzer probe server
  2. Install Ops Center Protector ISM (client mode)

Step 4: Configuring SSL communications

Depending on your configuration, you can use the SSL Setup Tool to perform each part of the SSL configuration using a menu or you can follow a series of manual procedures.

By default, Common Services uses SSL/TLS communications immediately after installation. Because Common Services uses a self-signed certificate, you must set up SSL to use a valid server certificate as follows:

  1. Prepare the server certificate for Common Services.
  2. Set the server certificate and private key path information.
  3. Specify the SSL server settings for each product.

Step 5: Register with Common Services

The following procedure provides the high-level steps for registering each Ops Center product with Common Services so that you can launch your product from the Ops Center portal and use single sign-on.

Before you begin, you must have the following information:

  • Common Services URL (URL for the Ops Center portal)
  • A user account (and password) with the Security Admin or System Admin role for Common Services
  • The server host name or IP address for the product you are registering. If this option is omitted, the existing host name is used.
  • The server port number. If this option is omitted, 22016 (SSL) is used.

Register the Ops Center products with Common Services as follows:

  1. Automator
  2. Analyzer, Analyzer detail view, and Analyzer probe server
  3. Administrator
  4. Protector

Step 6: Log in to the Ops Center Portal

To verify the installation and setup, log into the Ops Center portal.

Step 7: Complete your setup in the Ops Center Portal

After you finish setting up SSL, you can complete your setup by logging in to the Ops Center portal to complete one or more of the following tasks:
