Multitenancy enables you to seamlessly share UCP Advisor resources with multiple subscribers, or tenants. Each tenant operates independently, unaware of the presence of other tenants. Robust security measures ensure data isolation, data privacy, and protection against unauthorized access.

For example, in a large organization, you can install UCP Advisor, create UCP systems, onboard devices, and share them with other departments. Multitenancy assures efficient utilization of resources, thereby reducing costs.

The multitenancy framework allows easy scalability. You can add new subscribers without impacting the overall infrastructure.

There are two types of users in the multitenancy framework:
  • Partner: User who owns and operates the multitenancy setup.

When you install UCP Advisor, a single partner, apiadmin is created by default and the ucpAdminRole privileges are granted. You can create multiple subscribers and assign device resources based on the subscriber requirements. The UCP system devices, such as storage, Ethernet switches, and Fibre Channel switches are always assigned to a partner.

The partner is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and the infrastructure of the multitenancy setup.

  • Subscribers (Tenants): Users who use the services provided by the partner within the multitenancy setup. The partner assigns the device resources to the subscribers.

The subscribers coexist within the same underlying infrastructure and resource framework.

You can assign only a compute device to a subscriber. You cannot assign storage devices, Ethernet switches, and Fibre Channel switches to a subscriber. However, you can assign the following device resources to a subscriber:
    • Storage: Volumes, storage pools, ports, host groups, iSCSI targets.
    • Ethernet switch: VLANs
    • Fibre Channel switch: Fibre Channel ports

Subscribers do not have access to UCP Advisor. All the operations are performed by the partner on behalf of the subscriber.
