You can create parity groups for a set of physical drives that comprise a RAID in a storage system. A logical storage area extracted from a parity group is used as an LDEV (basic volume) that is used for allocation to hosts.
- Browse to the storage system where you want to create a parity group.
- Select Parity Groups.
- Select Create Parity Group, and then enter the following:
- Parity Group
- Enter a two-part number for the new parity group, such as 1-5, where the first number ranges 1-32 and the second number ranges 1-32.
- Resource Group
- (Optional) Select a resource group from the list.Note: Creating a parity group on VSM is not supported.
- RAID Level
- Select a RAID level from the list.
- Drive Type
- Select a type of drive from the list.
- Select drives
- You must select the same number of drives you selected for the RAID level.
- Accelerated Compression Mode
- (Optional) The accelerated compression status for an internal parity group with an FMC drive type. Toggle slider to the right to enable and to the left to disable. If you enable accelerated compression for this parity group, you cannot also enable encryption.
You can enable accelerated compression only if all the following are true:
- The drive type is FMC.
- The emulation type is OPEN-V.
- The RAID level supports POOL-VOL.
- Data Encryption
- (Optional) Toggle slider to the right to enable encryption on this parity group or to the left to disable encryption on this parity group.
If you enable encryption for this parity group, you cannot also enable accelerated compression.
To enable encryption for the parity group, you must have the following prerequisites:
- The encryption license is installed and enabled on the storage system.
- The encryption environment settings are configured on the storage system.
- The encryption hardware is available on the storage system.
To enable the capability, the encryption keys are required. If they are not available or installed on the system, the setting does not take effect even it is set.
- CopyBack Capability
- (Optional) Toggle slider to the right to enable CopyBack capability or to the left to disable CopyBack capability.
- Click Submit.
- Click the Refresh icon to update the list information.
