You can create a new Virtual Machine File System (VMFS) datastore to create a logical container for virtual machine files. When creating a datastore, UCP Advisor automatically creates an associated logical unit on the storage system. If you delete the datastore, you must also delete its associated logical unit.

You can configure a datastore from the datastore storage tab.

  • Complete all the vCenter-related tasks. See Managing datastores.
  • Verify that a vCenter is registered and attached to the UCP system.
  • Onboard the storage device to the UCP Advisor inventory.
  • Configure the storage device zoning and host groups.
  • Configure NVM subsystem and host groups for NVMe-oF based datastore.
  • Add the host to the vCenter server.
  • Add the vCenter to UCP Advisor.
  1. Browse to the storage system where you want to create and provision a datastore
  2. Select Datastores > Provision.
  3. Enter the following information:
    Datastore Name
Enter a name for the datastore. The maximum length is 32 characters.
    Datastore Capacity (GB)
Enter the capacity in GBs as an integer.
    Single or Multiple Datastore Creation
Select the single or multiple datastore creation option.
    Storage System
Select a storage device from the list.
    Storage Pool
Select a storage pool from the list.
    Protocol
Select either Fibre Channel (FC) or NVMe-over-Fabric (NVMe-oF). The default selection is FC.
    Storage Resource Group
(Optional) Select a resource group from the list.
    ALUA mode
(Optional) Click the box to enable ALUA mode or leave unchecked to disable ALUA mode.
    Initial Datastore Number
For multiple datastores only, enter the number for the initial datastore name.
    Number of Datastores
For multiple datastores only, enter the number of datastores (as an integer) that are to be created and provisioned.
Note: The recommended maximum is 20 datastores.
    Select NVMe Subsystems
Select a NVMe subsystem for the ESXi hosts. Only visible if NVMe-oF is selected for the Protocol field above.
    Select Hosts
    • FC: Select hosts or clusters, and then click Advanced Options. If the required hosts are not listed, click the Refresh icon to update the hosts list.
    • NVMe-oF: Select hosts. If the required hosts are not listed, click the Refresh icon to update the hosts list.
Note: Refreshing vCenter requires a ucpAdmin role.
Note: ESXi hosts for compute nodes in Onboarding or Error state are not listed.
  4. Click Submit.
Note: The zone verification task runs in parallel with the provision datastore task
