The following table is used to calculate the amount of data of the output SMF records.
| Record (subtype) |
Size per record (in bytes) |
Number of records per interval |
|---|---|---|
| LDEV (subtype 2) |
header-length + (number-of-collection-target-LDEVs-in-the-CU LDEV-section-length) |
Number of collection target CUs |
| MPU (subtype 3) |
header-length + MPU-section-length + (number-of-CLPRs |
Number of collection target MPUs |
| PGRP (subtype 4) |
header-length + (number-of-parity-groups-in-the-storage-system PGRP-section-length) |
Number of collection target storage systems |
| PORT (subtype 5) |
header-length + (number-of-ports-in-the-storage-system PORT-section-length) |
Number of collection target storage systems |
| MPRANK20 (subtype 6) |
header-length + (number-of-MPs-in-the-storage-system MPRANK20-section-length) |
Number of collection target storage systems |
- Note:
- header-length = standard-header-length + self-defining-section-length + product-section-length
Add the calculated sizes to the output sizes of other programs to determine the sizes of the SMF dataset, SMF log stream, and SMF buffer.
For details on how to set the sizes of SMF dataset and SMF buffer, see the IBM manual MVS System Management Facility.
