Syntax

PREFIX(prefix)
DEVN(start-DEVN[:end-DEVN][,start-DEVN[:end-DEVN]]...)
VOLSER(start-volser[:end-volser][,start-volser[:end-volser]]...)
STORGRP(SMS-group[,SMS-group]...)
SCHSET(ALL)

Parameters

PREFIX(prefix)~<prefix consisting of 25 or fewer characters>

Prefix of the disk configuration definition file. A disk configuration definition file with the following name is created.

prefix.DSK.SNnnnnn.LOCAL

nnnnn: Storage system serial number

If multiple PREFIX parameters are specified, the value that was specified last is used.

DEVN(start-DEVN[:end-DEVN][,start-DEVN[:end-DEVN]]...)~<5 or fewer hexadecimal characters>((00000 to 3FFFF))

Device numbers of the volumes to be scanned.

To specify a range of device numbers, enter a colon (:) between the numbers of the first and last devices to be scanned. To specify multiple values, delimit the values by using commas (,). If the values to be specified for a parameter cannot fit on a single line, specify multiple parameters.

When multiple subchannel sets are used:

To scan a specific subchannel set, specify the subchannel set ID for the first digit and the device number for the last four digits.

To scan all subchannel sets, omit the subchannel set ID for the DEVN parameter. Instead, specify the SCHSET(ALL) parameter.

If you omit both the subchannel set ID for the DEVN parameter and the SCHSET(ALL) parameter, subchannel set 0 will be scanned.

To specify a range by specifying subchannel set IDs, specify the same subchannel set ID for both the start and end subchannel set IDs.

VOLSER(start-volser[:end-volser][,start-volser[:end-volser]]...) ~ <6 or fewer alphanumeric characters>

Volume serial numbers of the volumes to be scanned.

To specify a range of volume serial numbers, enter a colon (:) between the serial numbers of the first and last volumes to be scanned. Specify the range in ascending EBCDIC code order. To specify multiple values, delimit the values by using commas (,). If the values to be specified for a parameter cannot fit on a single line, specify multiple parameters.

When multiple subchannel sets are used:

If you specify the SCHSET(ALL) parameter, all subchannel sets are scanned. The volumes that have the same device number as the specified volumes are scanned.

If you omit the SCHSET(ALL) parameter, subchannel set 0 is scanned.

STORGRP(SMS-group[,SMS-group]...) ~ <symbolic name consisting of 8 or fewer characters>

SMS storage group names to be scanned.

To specify multiple values, delimit the values by using commas (,). If the values to be specified for a parameter cannot fit on a single line, specify multiple parameters.

When multiple subchannel sets are used:

If you specify the SCHSET(ALL) parameter, all subchannel sets are scanned. The volumes that have the same device numbers as the volumes in the specified SMS storage groups are scanned.

If you omit the SCHSET(ALL) parameter, subchannel set 0 is scanned.

SCHSET(ALL)

When multiple subchannel sets are used, if you specify the SCHSET(ALL) parameter, volumes of all of the subchannel sets are scanned. If you omit the SCHSET(ALL) parameter, volumes in subchannel set 0 are scanned.

Notes

  • The storage systems containing the volumes to be scanned must be connected to the host by paths.

  • If you specified the metric collection scope by using SMS storage group names, specify the scan scope by using SMS storage group names. After that, if you specify the scan scope by using the DEVN parameter or the VOLSER parameter, the SMS storage group attribute of the volumes is deleted from the disk configuration definition file.

  • Note the following when multiple subchannel sets are used:
    • When the DEVN parameter, which specifies the subchannel set ID, and the SCHSET(ALL) parameter are both specified, the subchannel set specified by the DEVN parameter is scanned.

    • If you are scanning by specifying the VOLSER parameter or the STORGRP parameter, for the volumes in the active subchannel set at scanning only, a value is set to the field of the volume serial number of the SMF record or the field of the name of the SMS storage group of the SMF record.

Input example

To scan the volumes whose device numbers 1100 and 1101:

PREFIX(PREFIX)
DEVN(1100,1101)

To scan the volumes whose device numbers 1100 to 1105 and device number 1107:

PREFIX(PREFIX)
DEVN(1100:1105,1107)

To scan the volumes whose serial numbers are VOL001, VOL005, and VOL009:

PREFIX(PREFIX)
VOLSER(VOL001,VOL005,VOL009)

To scan the volumes whose device numbers 1100 to 1105 and the volumes whose serial numbers are VOL001 to VOL009:

PREFIX(PREFIX) /* Disk configuration definition file prefix */
DEVN(1100:1105)
VOLSER(VOL001:VOL009)

To scan the volumes whose device numbers are from 1100 to 1105 in all of the subchannel sets:

PREFIX(PREFIX)
DEVN(1100:1105)
SCHSET(ALL)

To scan the volumes whose device numbers are from 1100 to 1105 in subchannel set 0, and the volumes whose device numbers are from 2100 to 2105 in subchannel set 1:

PREFIX(PREFIX)
DEVN(01100:01105)
DEVN(12100:12105)

If the values to be specified for the parameter cannot fit on a single line:

PREFIX(PREFIX)
DEVN(1100:1105,1120:1125,1140:1145,1160:1165,1180:1185,1200:1205,1220:1225)
DEVN(1240:1245,1260:1265,1280:1285)
