To statically set the following environments by using system symbols, define the IEASYMxx parmlib member.
  • Whether the system logger service is used to collect event logs

  • Default record type of the SMF record to be output by MAR

  1. Define the following line in the IEASYMxx parmlib member.
    SYMDEF(system-symbol='system-symbol-value')
  2. After an IPL is performed again, use the RSDSPENV command to confirm that the system symbols have been specified correctly.
    START RSDSPENV,PARM='DETAIL'

Example of defining the IEASYMxx parmlib member

  • When specifying whether to use the system logger service to collect event logs

SYMDEF(&YKLOGPT='LOGR') (if using the system logger service)

SYMDEF(&YKLOGPT='SAM') (if not using the system logger service)

  • When specifying the default record type of the SMF record to be output by MAR

    SYMDEF(&RSRTYPE='SMF-record-type')

Note:

The system symbol that specifies whether to use the system logger service is shared by MAR, Business Continuity Manager, and Tiered Storage Manager for Mainframe. Therefore, you must be careful when setting the system symbol in an environment where Business Continuity Manager or Tiered Storage Manager for Mainframe is installed.
