Specify the settings for outputting SMF records.

For details on how to set SMF, see the IBM manual MVS System Management Facility.

  1. Determine the record type of the SMF records to be output by MAR in the range from 128 to 255.
You must specify a SMF record type that is different from the types of the other products or user programs that have been installed. The SMF dump program outputs the list of record types that has been output to the SMF dataset or SMF log stream to the summary activity report. Select a record type that is not in the list.
  2. Register the record type that was determined for the SMF record type for MAR by using either of the methods below. If you used both methods, the specification for the metric collection parameter takes priority.
    • Use the system symbol &RSRTYPE to register the record type as the default setting.

    • Set the record type for the metric collection parameter SET RTYPE.

  3. Check whether the settings for the SMFPRMxx parmlib member are as follows.

For details about the SMFPRMxx parmlib member, see the IBM manual MVS Initialization and Tuning Reference.

    • For the TYPE or NOTYPE option of the SYS or SUBSYS parameter, the setting has been specified to collect the SMF record type for MAR.
    • When the output destination of SMF records is a log stream (the value of the RECORDING parameter is LOGSTREAM), the SMF record type for MAR is specified for the TYPE option of the LSNAME parameter.
    • When SMF record flood support is active (the FLOODPOL parameter has been specified), the SMF record type for MAR is not specified for the TYPE option of the FLOODPOL parameter.

If the SMF record type is specified here, records are not output when SMF records have a high output frequency.

    • When an SMF exit routine is specified for the EXITS parameter, output of SMF records for MAR in the exit routine is not suppressed.
  • Verifying the setup information
