Use the RSALCSVC environment configuration command to dynamically register a user SVC.
  • Settings for using environment configuration commands and cataloged procedures

  1. Choose an unused SVC number between 200 and 255 to assign to the user SVC.
  2. Execute the following RSALCSVC command.
    START RSALCSVC,PARM='SVC-number'
    Tip:

The user SVC registered with the RSALCSVC command is invalidated if an IPL is performed again. Perform either of the following in case you need to perform an IPL again the next time:

    • Add the RSALCSVC command to the COMMNDxx parmlib member, so that the user SVC is automatically registered when an IPL is performed again.

    • Define the user SVC in the IEASVCxx parmlib member, and use the statically-registered user SVC from the next time an IPL is performed again.

Notes

  • To assign a new SVC number to a user SVC that already has an SVC number, first delete the user SVC, and then re-register the user SVC and assign it a new SVC number.

  • If you used the RSALCSVC command to register a user SVC while MAR was running, the execution of the MAR program continues to use the user SVC defined by the IEASVCxx parmlib member. The registered user SVC will take effect when a MAR program restarts.

  • A user SVC is shared by MAR, Business Continuity Manager, and Tiered Storage Manager for Mainframe. Therefore, you must be careful when registering a user SVC if you install MAR for the first time in an environment where Business Continuity Manager or Tiered Storage Manager for Mainframe is installed.

  • Setting up the MAR environment variables and system symbols
