You can migrate data from the local storage system to a remote storage system by using TrueCopy for Mainframe initial copy or IBM® HyperSwap (Copy Services Manager (CSM) Basic HyperSwap or GDPS HyperSwap). You can perform TrueCopy for Mainframe operations from CSM or GDPS. If a failure (such as remote path failures or volume failures) occurs during data migration, data might not be correctly written to the migration target remote storage system. In that case, resolve the failure, delete the TrueCopy for Mainframe pair, and perform data migration again. For details about how to use CSM or GDPS, see the IBM® documentation.

  1. When using CSM, set the following:
    • Set system option modes (SOMs) 484 and 769 to ON.
    • When the CSM version is 6.3.5 or later, set csm.server.startmm_in_gcmode=false to rmserver.properties in the CSM configuration definition file.
  2. Set up a data path between the primary site and the secondary site to create a bidirectional remote path.
  3. Create a TrueCopy for Mainframe pair.
  4. Monitor the progress of the initial copy operation and the pair status. Wait until the initial copy is complete and the pair status changes to Pending or Duplex.
  5. Use CSM Basic HyperSwap or GDPS HyperSwap to exchange the P-VOL and the S-VOL.
  6. Delete the TrueCopy for Mainframe pair.
