Pair status (CCI/BCM)

Description

Host status

P-VOL access

S-VOL access

SMPP4/TRANS

The pair is in the process of being deleted. In this state, pair operations are not possible. When the deletion is complete, the pair volumes become simplex volumes.

P-VOL = SIMPLEX

S-VOL = SIMPLEX

Read/write disabled1, 3

Read/write disabled 1

CPPD4/PENDING

Creation of a pair is performed, and the initial copy is being executed2. The system continues to accept Read/Write operations on the primary volume, but Write operations on the secondary volume is prohibited.

P-VOL = PPRI-PNDG

S-VOL = PSEC-PNDG

Read/write enabled

Read/write disabled 1

PAIR/DUPLEX

The initial copy operation is complete and the volumes are paired. Update copy from the P-VOL to the S-VOL is performed. Even if the pair status is PAIR/DUPLEX, the P-VOL and S_VOL are not necessarily synchronized.

P-VOL = PPRIMARY

S-VOL = PSECONDRY

Read/write enabled

Read/write disabled 1

COPY/TRANS

The pair split operation begins in normal mode (Steady Split), and the pair is in the process of being split.2 The differential data of the primary volume is copied to the secondary volume. When the differential copy is complete, the pair is split. The data on the split secondary volume is the same as on the primary volume at the time the pair is split.

P-VOL = PPRI-PNDG

S-VOL = PSEC-PNDG

Read/write enabled

Read/write disabled 1

PSUP4, 5/SUSPVS

The pair split operation begins in fast mode (Quick Split) and the pair is being split.2 In the background, the differential data is copied from the primary volume to the secondary volume. You cannot delete a pair in PSUP/SUSPVS status.

P-VOL = PPRI-SUSP

S-VOL = SIMPLEX

Read/write enabled

Read/write enabled

PSUS(or SSUS)6/SUSPOP

The pair is split. The storage system stops running update copy. Write operations can now be performed on the S-VOL. When the pair is in the PSUS(or SSUS)/SUSPOP status, the differential data between the P-VOL and S-VOL is saved, so that the pair volumes can be quickly resynchronized later.

P-VOL = PPRI-SUSP

S-VOL = SIMPLEX

Read/write enabled

Read/write enabled

CPRS4/PENDING

The pair resync operation begins, and the pair volumes are being copied by the resync operation.2 Write I/O operations to the S-VOL in CPRS/PENDING status are rejected. If the split pair is resynchronized in normal mode, only the differential data of the P-VOL is copied to the S-VOL. If a pair in PSUE/SUSPER status is resynchronized, the entire P-VOL is copied to the S-VOL.

P-VOL = PPRI-PNDG

S-VOL = PSEC-PNDG

Read/write enabled

Read/write disabled 1

RCPY/REVRSY

The reverse resync operation begins, and the pair volumes are being copied by the resync operation.2 Write I/O operations on the S-VOL in RCPY/REVRSY status are rejected. Only the differential data of the S-VOL is copied to the P-VOL. During a reverse resync operation or resync operation in Quick Restore mode for VSP One B85 or during a reverse resync operation for VSP One B20 series, update copy is not performed.

P-VOL = PPRI-PNDG

S-VOL = PSEC-PNDG

Read only1

Read/write disabled 1

PSUE/SUSPER

The pair has been suspended by the storage system. The storage system continues to accept host update requests to the P-VOL. Update copy to the S-VOL is stopped. The storage system marks the entire P-VOL as differential data, resynchronizes the suspended pair, and copies the entire P-VOL to the S-VOL.

P-VOL = PPRI-SUSP

S-VOL = PSEC-SUSP

Read/write enabled

Read/write disabled 1

Notes:

  1. If you run DEVSERV on a volume for which read/write operations are not allowed, "INTERVENTION REQUIRED" is reported. However, if you create a pair while the volume is online and then run DEVSERV against a volume for which read/write operations are not allowed, a normal value is reported.
  2. The start time of copying depends on the number of pairs and the system environment.
  3. Read/write is available if read/write was available before transitioning to SMPP/TRANS.
  4. This pair status is displayed in D_Status in the result of the CCI pairdisplay command.
  5. The following status is displayed in Status in the result of the CCI pairdisplay command:
    • P-VOL: PSUS
    • S-VOL: COPY
  6. The following status is displayed as the result of the CCI pairdisplay command:
    • P-VOL: PSUS
    • S-VOL: SSUS
