Before you start creating pairs, configure your ShadowImage for Mainframe environment as follows:
- Set the appropriate system option modes (SOMs) for your configuration.
For details, see System option modes for ShadowImage for Mainframe.
- Confirm that the volumes that will be the P-VOLs and S-VOLs of ShadowImage for Mainframe pairs meet the requirements for pair volumes.

- If you plan to use consistency groups (CTGs), check to see if there are any existing CTGs for other replication software.

- Set the local replica options on your storage system.
