Restrictions on the OS IPL procedure that apply when using Fibre Channel Endpoint Security for Mainframe

If Fibre Channel Endpoint Security for Mainframe is used for a channel path required during an Initial Program Load (IPL) of the OS, the channel path must be brought online before performing the IPL.

If the channel path is not brought online before performing the IPL, the IPL on the OS might not be performed.

Use the following procedure to perform the IPL.

  1. Bring the channel path used for the OS IPL online.

    For more information about how to bring the channel path online, see the IBM® documentation.

  2. Verify that the channel path used for the OS IPL is brought online on the Hardware Management Console (HMC).
  3. Verify that no SIM reference codes specified in SIM codes for Fibre Channel Endpoint Security for Mainframe are output.

    If the SIM code is output, take actions described in SIM codes for Fibre Channel Endpoint Security for Mainframe.

  4. Verify that the security encryption setting (SECURITY) of the port connected to the channel path used for the OS IPL is ENFORCED or ENABLED.

    Check the security encryption setting by using SECURITY of the raidcom get port -key detail command in CCI.

    The security encryption setting (SECURITY) might take a while to change to ENFORCED or ENABLED. If the security encryption setting (SECURITY) is not changed to ENFORCED or ENABLED after waiting for three minutes, take actions by referring to Troubleshooting FICON® encryption.

  5. Perform the IPL.
