The first table gives the general methods of verifying an error occurrence. The subsequent two tables give more specific information, depending on whether or not the V-VOL identified by the SSB error code is a deduplication system data volume.

General verification methods

How to verify an error occurrence Advantage Disadvantage Solutions

Reading V-VOL data from the host

(Read the entire volumes specified in the following table from the host.)

The verification takes the shortest time to complete compared to other methods. To perform the verification while continuing your operations, you must control the number of volumes to be read at one time and the read performances in order to reduce the processor utilization rate.
  • If no errors occur, the read succeeds.
  • If an error occurs, SIM code 680001 is output. The read cannot be performed with the check response returned to the host.

Creating an SI pair

(Create an SI pair that uses a volume specified in the following table as the V-VOL.)

The host operation is not required.
  • To perform the verification while continuing your operations, you must control the number of volumes to be read at a time and the read performances in order to reduce the processor utilization rate.
  • The free pool capacity for the copy destination volume is required.
  • If no errors occur, the pair creation succeeds.
  • If an error occurs, SIM code 680001 is output. The pair cannot be created, and the pair is suspended by error.

Health check feature*

(On the volumes automatically identified as specified in the following table, whether an error occurs is verified.)

  • The host operation is not required.
  • The health check feature enables the verification while continuing your operations, because the processor utilization rate is controlled to about 15%.
The health check feature takes the longest time to complete compared to other read methods.
  • If no errors occur, health check is complete without SIM code 680001 output.
  • If an error occurs, health check is complete with SIM code 680001 output.

Verification target volumes (if a V-VOL identified by the SSB error code is a deduplication system data volume (data store))

How to verify an error occurrence When to verify an error occurrence
Before duplicated data initialization After duplicated data initialization
Reading the data on V-VOLs from the host DRS-VOLs V-VOLs with capacity saving of compression that belong to the pool, and DRS-VOLs that do not belong to the pool
Creating an SI pair DRS-VOLs V-VOLs with capacity saving of compression that belong to the pool, and DRS-VOLs that do not belong to the pool

Verification target volumes (if a V-VOL identified by the SSB error code is NOT a deduplication system data volume (data store))

How to verify an error occurrence When to verify an error occurrence
Before duplicated data initialization After duplicated data initialization
Reading the data on V-VOLs from the host DRS-VOLS DRS-VOLs that are not the target volume
