The VSP One Block storage systems support several management tools for system administration, including software that is embedded on the controllers of the storage system and software that is installed on a server or host connected to the storage system. The embedded management tools are accessed from a management (SSH) client on the management LAN for the storage system. The following table lists the management tools for VSP One Block and shows the primary usage for each tool.

Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform One Block Administrator
The VSP One Block Administrator web-based software enables you to quickly configure and provision a single storage system and its resources, such as volumes and pools, and perform daily operations such as backing up data and monitoring performance. VSP One Block Administrator combines a simple and intuitive graphical user interface, high-performing REST APIs, and a built-in CLI embedded natively in the storage system to provide comprehensive administrative capabilities. VSP One Block Administrator is embedded on the controllers and accessed using the management PC.
The VSP One Block Administrator dashboard enables you to quickly determine the health of your storage system. Key performance metrics such as IOPS and response time are displayed graphically to show peaks and trends. The dashboard also displays the overall capacity of the storage system, its usage/available capacity, and the data reduction (deduplication and compression) savings, including the amount of data reduction achieved.
Use System Monitor to monitor the storage system performance. For more information, see the VSP One Block Administrator User Guide for VSP One Block 85.
Maintenance utility
The maintenance utility displays storage system information and allows you to perform basic configuration and system administration tasks on the storage system, including initial setup and configuration of the storage system, user administration, software license management, SNMP operations, and audit log settings. The maintenance utility is embedded on the controllers and accessed using the management PC. You can log in to the maintenance utility directly from the management PC, or you can log in to VSP One Block Administrator and then launch the maintenance utility from there.
Command console
The command console in VSP One Block Administrator provides access to the CCI software embedded on the controllers of the storage system. You can use the command console to perform complex configuration and provisioning operations by issuing CCI raidcom commands directly to the storage system. To use embedded CCI, you log in to VSP One Block Administrator and then open the command console window. When the management PC (SSH client) connects successfully to the controller, the CCI user session is created.
Command Control Interface (CCI)
The CCI host-based CLI software provides powerful command-line control for Virtual Storage Platform family storage systems, enabling you to manage storage system resources and perform data management operations such as replication and protection by issuing commands to the storage systems.
CCI commands can be used interactively or in scripts to automate and standardize storage administration functions. For remote replication operations, CCI interfaces with the host system software and high-availability (HA) software as well as the software on the storage system to provide enhanced functionality. CCI supports both synchronous and asynchronous processing of configuration setting commands to accommodate provisioning operations that can take time to process.
REST APIs
REST-based APIs extend operations, enabling integration with existing tool sets and automation templates to further simplify and consolidate management tasks. The VSP One Block storage systems support the following REST APIs:
  • Simple API

    The Simple API is designed for basic storage provisioning tasks and incorporates a modern architecture to ensure high-speed execution. Configuration parameters are minimized to reduce complexity, enabling rapid system provisioning through a streamlined process.

  • Detailed API

    The Detailed API provides advanced configuration capabilities for storage provisioning. It offers extensive options for advanced configuration settings in a mixed block storage environments. While the configuration process involves more steps compared to the Simple API, the Detailed API delivers greater operational flexibility and control.

Notes:

  1. If you are considering to perform data migration using CCI under these requirements, contact customer support.
  2. If you are considering to perform data migration using REST API under these requirements, contact customer support.
  3. If you perform data migration using VSP One Block Administrator under these requirements, a server cannot issue I/Os to the migration target volumes until Volume Migration completes data copy after you map the volumes to the migration target storage system by using Universal Volume Manager. During this period of time, you need to stop operating the server. For details about the period during which the server cannot issue I/Os, see the VSP One Block Administrator User Guide.

    If you want to minimize the time the server operations are stopped, consider using CCI to perform data migration. If you use CCI, the server can issue I/Os to the migration target volumes even while Volume Migration is migrating data after the volumes are mapped using Universal Volume Manager.
