Verify the pool capacity and expand the pool if necessary. You can expand the pool capacity by adding to the capacity per parity group. When the pool capacity is expanded, rebalancing occurs automatically. However, some metadata for capacity saving cannot be moved by rebalancing. As a result, the load of I/O operations, asynchronous deduplication processing, and garbage collection on DRS-VOLs that is defined before expanding the pool capacity might not be evenly distributed across the parity groups in the pool.

If you expand the pool capacity by specifying a drive configuration, make sure to verify the following conditions:

  • Drive information (drive type, drive interface, and capacity)
  • RAID level

The RAID level in the pool should be RAID 6 or RAID 5.

If you expand the pool capacity by using a drive with the same drive information (drive type, drive interface, and capacity) as the drive that configures the pool, only the same RAID level as the one already configured can be specified. If you want to expand the pool capacity by specifying a different RAID level, use VSP block storage REST API or CCI.

  • Number of drives to be used
