You can use Dynamic Provisioning for Mainframe in combination with Volume Migration to migrate DP-VOLs.
The following figure shows the interaction when the Volume Migration source volume and target volume are also DP-VOLs.
The following table lists the supported Volume Migration and Dynamic Provisioning for Mainframe volume combinations.
You cannot specify a Dynamic Provisioning for Mainframe pool-VOL as a Volume Migration source volume and target volume.
If you specify a DP-VOL as the source volume, you must not specify the DP-VOL that uses the same pool of the source volume.
For more information about the migration of DP-VOLs used in the following software products, see Volume Migration User Guide for VSP One Block.

| Volume Migration source volume | Volume Migration target volume | Description | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DP-VOLs | With no attributes | DP-VOL | With no attributes | Supported. |
| TSE-VOL | TSE-VOL | Supported. | ||
| ESE-VOL | ESE-VOL | Supported if SOM 1256 is enabled, or the pool ID to which source volume and target volume belong and the CU number are both even numbers (or both odd numbers). This combination of volumes is not supported in other cases. | ||
| DP-VOLs | With no attributes | Normal volumes* | Supported. | |
| TSE-VOL | Not supported. | |||
| ESE-VOL | Supported. | |||
| Normal volumes* | DP-VOLs | With no attributes |
Supported, but not recommended. This combination of volumes consumes the same amount of effective pool capacity as the normal volume* used as the source volume. |

| TSE-VOL | Not supported | |||
| ESE-VOL | Not supported | |||
| * Normal volumes include the internal volumes and external volumes (which are mapped from the volumes of the external storage system using Universal Volume Manager) but exclude DP-VOLs. For details on external volumes, see the Universal Volume Manager User Guide for VSP One Block. | ||||
