You can use Dynamic Provisioning for Mainframe in combination with ShadowImage for Mainframe to replicate DP-VOLs.



The following table lists the supported ShadowImage for Mainframe and Dynamic Provisioning for Mainframe volume combinations.

You cannot specify a Dynamic Provisioning for Mainframe pool-VOL as a ShadowImage for Mainframe primary volume or secondary volume.

Explanation

DP-VOLs DP-VOLs Supported

If a DP-VOL is an ESE-VOL, Quick Restore can only run resynchronization if both of the following conditions are met. Otherwise, it cannot be run.

  • The primary volume and the secondary volume are both ESE-VOLs.
  • SOM 1256 is enabled, or the pool IDs to which the primary and secondary volumes belong match with the even or odd number of the CU numbers.
DP-VOLs Normal (ordinary) volumes* Supported.

The Quick Restore function is unavailable.

Normal (ordinary) volumes* DP-VOLs Supported.

Note that this combination consumes the same amount of pool capacity as the normal volume.

The Quick Restore function is unavailable.

* Normal volumes include the internal volumes and external volumes that are mapped from the volumes of the external storage system using Universal Volume Manager.
