Spare drives are mounted separately from the data drives that are used for host read and write operations. When you use spare drives, if a failure occurs in a data drive, the storage system can continue to be available to hosts in the same way as before the failure occurs. For example, if a failure occurs in a data drive, the stored data is copied to a spare drive so that you can use the spare drive.
