NVMe/TCP requires creation of the NVM subsystem to manage a path between the host and a logical volume. You can manage and configure the relationships between an NVMe/TCP port (subsystem port) that connects to the host, a logical volume (namespace) assigned to the host, a host device (host NQN), and the volume access for each NVM subsystem.

Creating an NVMe subsystem

When you create an NVM subsystem, configure the following settings:

  • Determine an NVM subsystem ID that you use (an NVM subsystem ID is not automatically numbered).
  • Host mode of the NVM subsystem.

For more information, see Host modes for the NVM subsystem.

  • Host OS to which the namespace is allocated.
  • NVM subsystem name. Do not use these characters: \ /:,; *?" <> | `.

If you don't specify a name, the system creates a default name.

  • Namespace security of the NVM subsystem.

If you omit specifying the namespace security (-namespace_security), the security feature is enabled by default.

Enabling the security settings is critical in preventing the NVM subsystem and the namespace (logical volume) from being accessed by any hosts. For more information, see Namespace security.
