To release FlashCopy® SE relationships, use any of the following commands:

  • PPRC TSO
  • ICKDSF
  • ANTRQST macro
  • z/VM CP
CAUTION:
The Withdraw command deletes all of the relationships for a volume. Therefore, if many relationships exist for a volume and the MP usage rate of the MP unit is high, running the Withdraw command might cause a timeout. You should establish no more than 4,000 relationships per volume to mitigate a timeout (even though the maximum number of relationships per volume is 65,534).

When an MIH occurs and releasing relationships ends abnormally, some relationships remain. If some relationships still remain, run the Withdraw command again.

If you release relationships while a background copy is running, an MIH tends to occur because stopping the background copy takes time. Therefore, release relationships after the background copy finishes if possible.

For an MIH not to occur, limit yourself to releasing no more than 4,000 relationships at one time. If you want to release more than 4,000 relationships, repeat the release process.

When you run the INIT, SCRATCH, or DELETE command (which operates on datasets), the Withdraw command is issued. If more than 4000 relationships exist, reduce the number of relationships before running the INIT, SCRATCH, or DELETE command.
