When the IBM® host supports the Multiple Incremental FlashCopy® function, you can use the function to establish multiple relationships. For details about multiple relationships, see About Compatible FlashCopy® V2 relationships. For details about IBM® host settings, see the IBM® documentation.

The following table describes differences between relationships that support the Multiple Incremental FlashCopy® function and relationships that do not support the function. Both relationships are established by using the Incremental FlashCopy® function.

* The number of relationships that can be established for each source volume is 16, which is the total of the number of relationships that are not established by the Incremental FlashCopy® function, the number of relationships which have the Type1 incremental type, and the number of relationships which have the Type2 incremental type. In addition, when you share a source volume, only one Type1 relationship can be established.

In this document, relationships which have the Type1 incremental type are referred to as Incremental Type1 relationships, and relationships which have the Type2 incremental type are referred to as Incremental Type2 relationships. You can check the incremental type of a relationship from relationship information by using the FCQUERY command of TSO or the FLASHCPY QUERY RELATIONS command of ICKDSF. For details about viewing relationship information, see Establishing relationships for Compatible FlashCopy® V2 (by volume). You cannot change the incremental type of an established relationship. If you want to change the type, you need to release the relationship.

Depending on the type of the user interface you use, the incremental type you can specify or the parameter to specify when you establish a relationship differ. The following table describes differences of the supported Multiple Incremental FlashCopy® functions according to user interfaces. For details about commands and options for establishing relationships with the Incremental FlashCopy® function, see Establishing relationships for Compatible FlashCopy® V2 (by volume).
