Note the following when establishing a relationship using Soft Fence volumes:

  • When you use the relationship establishment command to establish a relationship, if Soft Fence is set for an S-VOL or a T-VOL, the command is rejected, and the relationship is not established.
  • If you use the FlashCopy® to PPRC Primary Volume function when Soft Fence is set for a TCz secondary volume, the TCz pair is suspended though a FlashCopy® relationship is established normally. To restore the suspended TCz pair, release the Soft Fence setting of the TCz secondary volume, then resynchronize the TCz pair.
  • If you use the FlashCopy® to URz Primary Volume function when Soft Fence is set for a URz secondary volume, the URz pair is suspended though a FlashCopy® relationship is established normally. To restore the suspended URz pair, release the Soft Fence setting of the URz secondary volume, then resynchronize the URz pair.
  • When you use the Remote FlashCopy® function to establish a relationship, if Soft Fence is set for a TCz primary or secondary volume, the command is rejected, and the relationship is not established
  • The following describes the Compatible FlashCopy® operation when the Preserve Mirror FlashCopy® function is used.
    • When REQUIRED is specified:

If Soft Fence is set for any of the volumes used by the Preserve Mirror FlashCopy® function, the command is rejected, and the relationship is not established.

    • When PREFERRED is specified:

If Soft Fence is set for any of the TCz secondary volumes, the Preserve Mirror FlashCopy® function switches to the FlashCopy to PPRC Primary Volume function. As a result, a relationship is established. If Soft Fence is set for any of the TCz primary volumes, the command is rejected, and a relationship is not established.
