In addition to establishing password policies for all storage system users, you can also apply specific password policies to specific users.

Use the following procedure to apply password policies to an individual user.

Note:
  • When you set up the password policies for the storage system, the password policies are not applied to existing users right away. The password policies are applied to existing users the next time the password of the user is changed.
  • If the existing password for an existing user does not comply with the new password policies, the user can continue to use the password until the password is changed.
  • If a user does not use the maintenance utility, an authentication error occurs at the first login and also when the password expires. To change the password at the first login or before the password expires, the user must use the maintenance utility.
  • You must have the Security Administrator (View & Modify) role to perform this task.
  1. Log in to the maintenance utility.
  2. Select Administration > User Administration.
  3. In the User Groups list, select the user group containing the user to which you want to apply the password policies.
  4. In the Users tab, select the user account to which you want to apply the password policies, and then click Edit.
  5. In the Edit User dialog box, enter the new password in the New Password and Re-enter Password fields.
  6. Specify the settings for the password policy options.
    Option Description
    Require Password Change on First Login Whether password change is requested at the first login:
    • Yes: Password change is requested at the first login.
    • No: Password change is not requested at the first login.

    Caution: When you set up the password policies for the "maintenance" account, select No for this option so that password change is not requested at the first login. Otherwise, the system administrator must change the password for maintenance personnel at the first login.
    Password Validity Period Period (days) during which password is valid for the user:
    • Follow system policy: The period is set according to the user account security policies settings.
    • Unlimited: The period is not set. (The password is valid indefinitely.)
  7. Confirm the settings, and then click Finish.
  8. If a warning message appears, click OK.
  9. When the confirmation message appears, click Apply.
  10. When the completion message appears, click Close.
