Use the following procedure to fail over to the standby ESM on the VSP One Block storage system.

  • Check if anyone is using the service IP address. When you switch between the active ESM and standby ESM, all connections that are using the service IP address are temporarily disconnected. After ESM failover is complete, check the connection of the service IP address. If this operation disconnected the session, reconnect to the maintenance utility.
  • You must have the Storage Administrator (Initial Configuration) role or the User Maintenance role to perform this task.

If you use an account other than the maintenance user, make sure that the account has the "Storage Administrator (Initial Configuration)" role or the "User Maintenance" role assigned. The User Maintenance role is contained in the Maintenance User group.

  1. Log in to VSP One Block Administrator, and in the navigation tree click Settings > System > Fail Over ESM.
  2. In the Fail Over ESM window, read the important caution.

  3. If you are sure that you want to fail over to the standby ESM, click Apply.
    CAUTION:
Do NOT select Forcibly stop Active ESM unless you have been told to do so by support personnel.
