Use the following procedure to change the date and time settings on the VSP One Block storage system.
CAUTION:
  • If you change the system date backward from the date currently set, the password validity period is shortened by the number of days of difference. Even if you change the system date back to a date later than the currently set date, the number of days of difference is not added back to the password validity period. If you want to increase the password validity period, set the password validity period again.

    Example:

    1. Before the system date is changed:
      • System date: September 1
      • Password validity period: 10 days
    2. After the system date is changed:
      • System date: September 2
      • Password validity period: 9 days
    3. After the system date is changed back to the previous value:
      • System date: September 1
      • Password validity period: 9 days
Note: About NTP servers:
  • If you are using an NTP server, use version NTPv4.
  • The NTP server must be connected to the management LAN.
  • To use the NTP server, use port number 123 for communications between the storage system and the NTP server. Therefore, configure the network settings between the storage system and the NTP server so that communications using port number 123 are established.
  • If you specify the IP address of the NTP server in IPv6 address format, do not use the following IP addresses:
    • Invalid value: [::]
    • Loopback address: [::1]
    • Multicast address: [FF00:: - FDFF:FFFF:FFFF:FFFF:FFFF:FFFF:FFFF:FFFF]
    • IPv4-mapped IPv6 address: [::FFFF:(IPv4)]
    • Link-local address: [FE80::xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx] (xxxx: Any value)
    • Global unicast address: [2001:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx] (xxxx: Any value)
    • Global unicast address: [2002:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx] (xxxx: Any value)
  • Check synchronization with the NTP server once a day. If synchronization fails, SIM reference code " 7ffa00 " is output.
  • If the date and time settings cannot be applied to the NTP server, take the following actions:
    1. Verify the following network settings, and take appropriate actions:
      • Verify that the IP address of the destination (NTP server) is correct.
      • If the destination is specified with the host name, the DNS server is configured in the Network Settings window on maintenance utility.
      • Verify that the host name of the destination is registered on the DNS server.
    2. Verify the following network errors, and take appropriate actions:
      • Verify that the destination (NTP server) is running.
      • Verify that the IP address or host name of the destination is correct.
      • Verify that a communication is established on the network between the destination and the storage system.
      • Verify that a network device such as a router or a switch between the destination and the storage system is functioning properly.
      • If a firewall is configured for a network device between the destination and the storage system, verify that the firewall setting is correct.
      • Verify that the LAN cable is functioning properly.
      • If you are using TLS/RFC5424 for the syslog transport protocol, make sure that the syslog server certificate file and the client certificate file meet the requirements. Make sure that the requirements for TLS communication are satisfied.
  • Make sure all users are logged out. The date and time cannot be changed while other users are accessing the storage system.
  • You must have the Storage Administrator (View & Modify) role to perform this task.
  1. In the VSP One Block Administrator navigation tree, click Settings > Date & Time.
    If you are already logged in to the maintenance utility, in the navigation tree click Administration > Date & Time.
  2. In the maintenance utility Date & Time window, click Set Up.
  3. Change the settings as needed, and then click Apply.

    Option

    Description

    UTC Timezone

    Time zone in which the storage system is located.

    Use NTP Server

    If you select Yes:

    • For NTP Server, enter the IP address or host name.

      To synchronize the storage system time to the NTP server time now, check Synchronize immediately.

    • In Synchronizing Time, specify the time to synchronize with the NTP server. If you want to synchronize the date and time at the same time that this task is completed, check Synchronize Immediately.

    If you select No:

    • For Date & Time, enter the date and time that the storage system will use.

    Synchronizing Time

    Enter the time to synchronize with the NTP server.

    If the currently set date and time is ahead of the real time, the configuration information might not be backed up after you change the date and time settings. To prevent this from happening, move the existing backup file to another folder and then change the system date and time.

  4. When the confirmation message appears, click Close.
